Trump’s End Game: Win-Win in Georgia Runoffs
By Scott Adams
It’s always dangerous to predict what strategies, if any are behind President Trump’s election challenge. It’s obvious that Trump can never accept failure and the blaming others is his mode of operandi.
Trump knows he can’t reverse the vote, but by pushing his baseless claims of election fraud he sets up a Republican loyalty test. You are either with him or against him. And if you are against him, it’s punishment time.
Trump’s plan for political resurrection and insurrection will play out in the 2022 election cycle. It’s never been about Party, it’s always been about what’s good for Trump. A weakened Republican Party in 2022 gives Trump the opportunity to revamp the Party in his image as he toys with another run at the White House in 2024.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is a prime target. The ultimate payback to McConnell is costing him the prized Senate majority.
Trump barely mentioned Senators Perdue and Loeffler in his December rally in Valdosta, Georgia. It’s a safe bet that he’ll use Perdue and Loefller as props at today’s final rally in Dalton, Georgia. Trump will continue his rants about a stolen election and go after Republicans he views as disloyal.
Trump’s actions since losing re-election have reached a crescendo. None of it bodes well for Republican Election Day turnout operations on January 5th. Democrats have overperformed in early and absentee voting with their base in strongholds of Metropolitan Atlanta and the state’s rural “Black Belt.” The Democratic turnout operations are driven by huge advantages with women, Blacks, voters of color, young voters and new voters. Republicans have to play catch up on January 5th.
Trump continues to attack the integrity of Georgia’s elections. He criminally crossed the line in his hour long phone call where he demanded that Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger commit election fraud. Republican Governor Brian Kemp continues to be in Trump’s crosshairs.
At least a dozen Republican Senators and over 100 Republican House members, and Vice-President Mike Pence hope to throw out the will of the voters on January 6th. Whomever does not join this seditious and baseless claim of election fraud, earns Trump’s unceasing enmity.
Trump continues to claim that he won the Georgia election and that the results were rigged. The election was stolen from him, and if Perdue and Loeffler go down in defeat, stolen from them as well. If Democrats control the Senate, through no fault of Trump’s, the soon to be ex-President will exact revenge on McConnell and be poised to play the role as savior. If Perdue and Loefller emerge as winners, Trump will claim credit.
In Trump’s game plan, the Georgia Senate runoffs are a win-win. Damn the Republicans, full speed ahead. So much for zero sum game.
